In Moscow, Presidential Candidate Stein Calls For US Foreign Policy of Principled Collaboration Rather than Lawless Domination

In Moscow, Presidential Candidate Stein Calls For US Foreign Policy of Principled Collaboration Rather than Lawless Domination  (MOSCOW) United States foreign policy in the Middle East is failing badly because it is built upon a futile quest for military and economic domination, according to Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein. Speaking as part of a panel of foreign policy experts at a forum organized by the RT news network, Stein said that solutions to problems such as jihadi terrorism would require Russia and the United States to work together, shedding outdated cold war attitudes that prevented collaboration on problems facing both nations. “The Obama Administration’s obsession with toppling the government in Damascus is fundamentally inconsistent with winning the fight against ISIS,” Stein asserted. “US pursuit of regime change in Libya, Iraq, and Syria created the chaos that promotes power grabs by extremist militias. Many of the weapons we are sending into Syria to arm anti-government militias are winding up in the hands of ISIS. This isn’t a clever foreign policy - it’s disastrous militarism.”   Continue reading

Stein: UN Process has failed to save climate: People must act

(PARIS) “The United Nations climate summit (COP21) has failed to take the action necessary to prevent global climate catastrophe,” said Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein as she prepared to depart Paris, where she had participated in several COP-related events. According to Stein, “The voluntary, unenforceable pledges being produced by COP21 are entirely insufficient to prevent catastrophic climate change. Scientific analysis shows that these pledges will lead us to 3 degrees Celsius global temperature rise - and that will be catastrophic.” Continue reading

Socialist Worker interview with Jill Stein: "We want to be the voice of struggle in 2016"

Dr. Jill Stein is an organizer, physician and pioneering environmental health advocate--and in 2012, the Green Party's candidate for president of the U.S. She has announced her plan to seek the Green Party nomination again and to put forward an alternative to a Democratic Party where Bernie Sanders may have significant support, but Hillary Clinton is the likely presidential candidate. The International Socialist Organization, publisher of SocialistWorker.org, has decided to endorse and support Stein's campaign for president as an independent left alternative in the 2016 election. In an interview conducted last month, Stein discussed her campaign with Ashley Smith. WHAT ARE the key issues in your campaign this year? WE HAVE a crisis in our economy, a crisis in the climate, and a crisis in everything in between. Jobs are going overseas, wages are going down, and the cost of living is skyrocketing. Black lives are on the firing line, immigrants are facing deportation, and over 40 million young people are trapped in debt. Continue reading

Stein Arrives in Paris for Climate Talks, Calls for US to Lead Emergency Action Ending Dependence on Fossil Fuels by 2030

Stein Arrives in Paris for Climate Talks, Calls for US to Lead Emergency Action Ending Dependence on Fossil Fuels by 2030  (PARIS)  Dr. Jill Stein, 2012 Green Party Presidential nominee, arrived in Paris today as part of a growing Green Party presence at the UN COP21 climate conference.  While in Paris Stein will be calling on world leaders to “Act urgently to save humanity from the looming catastrophe of climate change.” According to Stein, “Climate change is the greatest threat humanity has ever faced.  A 0.9 degree global temperature increase is already responsible for monster storms, catastrophic droughts, melting of glaciers, rising sea levels, and spread of tropical diseases.  But this is just a taste of what we are in for if warming reaches 2 degrees.  Beyond that point, we are in uncharted waters.” “The nations of the world deserve a solution as big as the crisis bearing down on us -- not half measures or politically expedient non-solutions.” Continue reading

Dr. Jill Stein, Presidential candidate at COP 21, to speak at civil society events decrying the derailed COP process, calling for US to lead transformative climate action

At this and other civil society events, Stein will call for an urgent, transformative solution “as big as the crisis barreling down on us.” In the face of a derailed COP process with woefully inadequate voluntary commitments, she is challenging the US to take the lead with an emergency Green New Deal to create 20 million living wage jobs and 100% clean renewable energy by 2030.  Stein also calls for deep cuts in the bloated US and other military budgets, as well as global nuclear disarmament to free up financial resources to pay for the green energy transition and climate damages inflicted on developing nations. Addressing the tragic context of the Paris meetings, Dr. Stein notes that terrorism is itself an outgrowth of catastrophic wars for oil, which the Green New Deal makes obsolete. Continue reading

Stein Calls on Congress to Fight Terrorism by Halting Arms Shipments to Saudi Arabia.

Dr. Jill Stein, who is seeking the Green Party Presidential nomination, called upon Congress today to stand up to terrorists by rejecting the Obama administration’s proposed sale of $1.29 billion bombs to Saudi Arabia. Congress has 30 days to reject the deal. “The wealthy elites of Saudi Arabia have been one of the leading funders of terrorism for decades. Now they are funding terrorists like ISIS. And often the weapons the US provides to our so-called allies in the Middle East end up in the hands of those who attack us. The Saudis have also been accused of war crimes in their bombing of civilian areas of Yemen, killing over 2000 civilians in the past six months. We have to stop sending US weapons to fuel terrorism and civil wars that breed terrorism,” said Stein.  Continue reading
